PEDIATRIC CLINIC IN AFRICA

project: PEDIATRIC CLINIC
location: SOMEWHERE IN AFRICA
year: 2008
prize: designforthechildren.org top 50

description:
The idea of this clinic came from the desire to make something that is close enough to the typical african home so that the visitors are not scared of the unknown. That is why the projects uses characteristic materials like cob, wood, sand and grass. The vision of the building is also enspired by local architecture – monumental and earnest but adding different elements so it becomes cosy and attractive, environmently and “human” friendly. The building is in fact infinite changing structure with basic unit – room cell. The different cells are connected by corridor. This allows creating a system for building pediatric clinics in Africa which can further transform according to their needs and possibilities. That structure can be set in different plots and the displacement can be solved by slabs in the corridor. On the other hand this organisation adds to the project a “Lego” design architecture which is close tochildren way of thinking and creates a comfortable atmosphere.
